How to Make a Modern Space Feel Warm
Designing a modern interior can be tricky when also trying to design a space that exudes a sense of warmth. Cool colors, chrome, stainless steel, leather and glass are all staples of modern interior design. Adding a material that is a contradiction to the normal modern palette is a simple and easy way to make a modern space feel warm. Any natural material is bound to make a statement in a sea of synthetic materials but there is no natural material that compliments a modern space quite like teak wood.
Why teak wood? Just look in any modern magazine and you're bound to see it somewhere or everywhere! Be it the flooring, shelving, cabinetry or furniture materials, it is highly unlikely that you'll miss it.
Teak wood is an enticing and sophisticated addition to any room, inside or out. Well designed real teak wood products not only bring warmth to a space but they also bring a sense of history and foreverness to spaces that may otherwise posses elements that are entirely new.
The incorporation of natural elements is especially necessary in modern kitchens. Stainless steel appliances, solid-surface counter-tops, frosted glass cabinet door inserts and chrome door pulls are all fixtures of most modern kitchens. However, as beautiful as all of these elements are, if not designed properly, some modern kitchens can exude a sterile doctor's office aesthetic. Softening the look of a modern kitchen and warming up the space can be as easy as setting a beautiful teak wood cutting board on the counter. The rich exotic grain of a teak cutting board can be a bold graphic statement and choosing the right teak cutting board can be fun because no two are exactly alike.
The more adventurous designer can replace the traditional counter surface for teak wood counter tops or a teak topped kitchen island. Making a modern room feel warm can be as easy as pairing items of contrasting elements, old against new, natural against manufactured. The juxtaposition of a cold modern surface - such as the shiny chrome legs of a modern sofa or chair against the naturally luxurious look of a teak wood floor instantly adds a sense of sophistication, well-roundedness, and welcomed unpredictability.
